Alabama has no state minimum wage law. Employers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act must pay at least the federal minimum wage.

Before payroll closes
Verify the rate for the work location
- Confirm the city and county where the work is performed. A local rate may be higher than the state baseline.
- Check whether employer size, industry, occupation, age, training status, or another coverage rule changes the rate.
- Review tip credit rules separately before using a cash wage below the full minimum wage.
- Keep the applicable rate and its effective date with the payroll record used for each work location.
