The state has no minimum wage or has a rate below the federal minimum. Employers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act must pay at least the federal minimum wage.

Verify the rate for the work location

  • Confirm the city and county where the work is performed. A local rate may be higher than the state baseline.
  • Check whether employer size, industry, occupation, age, training status, or another coverage rule changes the rate.
  • Review tip credit rules separately before using a cash wage below the full minimum wage.
  • Keep the applicable rate and its effective date with the payroll record used for each work location.
