Practical guide
How the Overtime Pay Calculator works.
An overtime pay calculator estimates the money earned across regular and overtime hours. It is useful when the question centers on the paycheck estimate rather than schedule cost or workforce planning.
The result separates regular wages, overtime wages, the additional premium, and total estimated gross pay. Taxes, deductions, bonuses, and other regular rate components are not calculated here.
Regular wages
Regular hours times the base hourly rate.
Overtime wages
Overtime hours times the base rate and selected multiplier.
Total gross
Regular wages plus overtime wages before taxes and deductions.
Worked example
At $20 per hour, 40 regular hours produce $800. Five overtime hours at a 1.5 multiplier add $150, producing an estimated $950 gross total.

Common questions
What is the difference between overtime wages and overtime premium?
Overtime wages include base pay plus the additional multiplier. The premium is only the amount paid above the base rate for those hours.
Can I use this result as a final payroll or staffing record?
Use the result as a planning aid. Confirm policies, workweek boundaries, pay rules, staffing requirements, and final records with the people responsible for them.
Does overtime pay mean only the extra premium?
No. Overtime pay usually refers to the full pay for overtime hours. This page also shows the additional premium separately.
Can this estimate double time?
The multiplier is editable, but the tool does not decide when double time or another rate applies.
