Column type
StandardText
A Text column stores free-form text. Use it for values that genuinely have no structure — names, notes, instructions. If the value repeats across records or drives filters and workflows, a select column is usually the better choice.
In one line
Free-form text: names, notes, descriptions, and anything without a fixed format.

Good to know
Prefer Single Select over Text when the value comes from a known list — text cannot drive clean tabs or workflows.
Keep automation off free text; workflows need structured fields to be reliable.
